It’s that time of year again…
New chicks almost every year
Sometimes we skip a year but usually, every spring we order a new shipment of baby chicks from the hatchery. Every year we watch the tracking for shipping so that we are available to go to the post office at first opportunity to pick them up.
Picking up the chicks as soon as possible
For the chicks, more time at the post office means more time without food and water and more stress. The chicks usually weather their first few days of life in their new world just fine but we want to make it as easy on them as possible.
Meanwhile back at the ranch…
Back at the ranch, long before the chicks arrive, their new home is prepared with food, water, sanitation, safety and security; everything that they need to prosper so that when the time is right, they can be productive.
We are like sheep… ur… chicks!
The chicks have no idea of everything that is involved in caring for them; they simply know their needs are met. Every year, that we are blessed with new chicks, I think about how helpless I am without God and how much I depend on Him for my every need: Even though, much of the time, I don’t even know what my needs are or all that He does for me.
Did you know chickens are mentioned in the Bible?
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you that kill the prophets, and stone them which are sent unto you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and you would not!
We can learn so much about God from His creation. These little chicks look to us for all of their needs; if you have ever watched a mother hen with her chicks then you have an idea of what Jesus (Yeshua) meant when He said how much He loves us and wants to take care of us.
If you have never seen a mother hen care for her chicks, then click here to see how it is done. In this video, you will see a mother hen watching over her chicks as they remain close by her side. They are constantly communicating with each other as the hen points out food for her clutch (baby chicks). When danger approaches, the hen chases it away and quickly ushers the defenseless chicks to safety.
Let God care for your needs
God is longing to care for you as a mother hen cares for her chicks. When we choose to rely on ourselves, we miss the best that He has for us.
Believe it or not, there are several verses in the Bible about chickens. You might consider looking them up in your concordance to see how your loving Heavenly Father yearns to care for you as a mother hen cares for her own.
God created all of these things to help us see Him as who He is. May God bless you today as you rest in His loving arms.
