What The Bible Says About “Positive Thinking” For God’s People Today

What the Bible says about “Positive Thinking” for God’s people today

Positive thinking can be a powerful tool for the people of God in our lives today.

However, contrary to popular new age beliefs, the purpose of positive thinking is not simply to make our lives better or to put us in harmony with the universe.

Rather positive thinking – if you want to call it that – is a universal law established by El’ Shaddai / God Almighty so that we can work together with Him to accomplish His plans and purposes.

2 Corinthians 10:5 says that we are to bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

If you say “I can’t” then you won’t

In his book “The Mental Edge” well Known Martial artist Loren Christensen writes (paraphrased)

“When I have a student tell me “I can’t do this or I can’t do that” I point to the sign on the wall that says “can’t is a four letter word”. And then I sternly tell them to reword their sentence to something like “Could you help me with this or what can I do to improve that”.

As a veteran of numerous life threatening situations I too will bear witness that Mr. Christensen is exactly right. If a person says they can’t, they most assuredly won’t.

But positive thinking begins to reach its fullest potential only when we bring our thoughts into harmony with the Creator of the world, Yahweh – the God of the Bible and the Savior of mankind; Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah.

Psalm 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

For positive thinking to reach its fullest potential we should put away our own desires and any thing that is not of God:

Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Ephesians 4:22-24
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Positive Thinking is one way to experience the peace of God

Once we put away our own desires and accept our new identity in the Messiah, Yeshua, then and only then Scriptures like this can truly manifest in a righteous manner. Then can we experience true fulfillment and inner peace.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

This is what brings true victory, health, healing and wholeness to our spirit, soul and body.

Proverbs 17:22
A merry heart does good like a medicine: but a broken spirit dries the bones.

Properly implemented, positive thinking can be a powerful tool for the people of God. Yet there are so very many dry bones throughout America and the world today.

The world, in turmoil, yearns for the Good News that only Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah can offer.

This is where the power of “Positive Thinking” truly lies.

I’ll see you out in the field,
Parson Rayphe, Dr.
